First impression? This is a thinkpad. Looks and feels exactly as you would expect from a thinkpad. The build quality is great, boxy and sturdy to hopefully handle the wear and tear of being tossed about during travel. The keyboard and touchpad are both very comfortable to use, and the performance is excellent. Fedora 12 is installed and all of the hardware runs without issue on it.

I read several reviews before deciding to purchase the t400, and my main concern was the screen quality. Several reviews state the LCD is not up to par with most other laptops, and unfortunately this is true. I braced myself for this potentially poor aspect of the laptop, but I have to say it’s still rather disappointing; you are always using the screen, and the poor vertical viewing angles and contrast make it frustrating to use at times.

Overall, I’m fairly happy with the laptop. It’s great for what it’s meant to be, a travel laptop you can do work with on the go. I wouldn’t want to use this as my primary computer to always do work on, but I think it will be great on short trips. My t400 will be put to its first test this christmas, and I’m hoping it shall pass
